Land of the pizza! I'd complain about the crowds of tourists in Italy,
but I'm just as guilty as the rest of them.

Venice

Ah, Venice... Even the most narrow, decayed streets have a romantic feel.
It really is a city of water; there are no road vehicles (or roads) so everyone travels
is by boat. You'll be sharing your water bus with the occasional monk of nun.
All those stone churches and palaces are built on wooden foundations
in the lagoon; go there now while it's still above water.

Florence

A total contrast to Venice at street level - it's full of noisy scooters which
have the one virtue that you can hear them coming before they run you over. But,
viewed from above the tangle of rooftops are very attractive in the sun. Around
the city is the Tuscan countryside, favourite holiday destination of the British
prime minister Tony Blair.
